The ”  Grand Palais des Beaux-Arts  ” was built in Paris from 1897 , for the Universal Exhibition scheduled from April 15 to November 12 , 19001 , in place of the vast but uncomfortable Palais de l’Industrie of 1855 . “Monument consecrated by the Republic to the glory of French art”, as indicated by the pediment of the west wing ( Antin Palace ), its original purpose was to host major official artistic events in the capital.

In the 1960s, Le Corbusier wanted the Grand Palais to be demolished in order to set up the 20th  century Art Museum there, which André Malraux had entrusted to him. The death of the architect, the August 27 , 1965, ends project 2 .

By decree of June 12 1975, the nave is listed as a historical monument . A new decree of November 6 , 2000, protects the Grand Palace in its entirety.
